PIERCE COMMITTED TO TAKING STEPS TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE NEED TO COMBAT HUNGER IN EVIL ARE PARLIAMENT OF THE I. WHEREAS THE CITY OF FT. WHEREAS RUFUS ALEXANDER ATTENDED MIAMI-DADE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND INSTITUTE AND LATER RECEIVED DEGREE IN MORTUARY SCIENCE FROM LYNN UNIVERSITY AND BOCA RATON FLORIDA. RUFUS ALEXANDER WITH OVER 40 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN FUNERAL SERVICE SERVED THIRD AND SERVED AS THE GENERAL R- MANAGER AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BUSINESS. WHEREAS RUFUS ALEXANDERS RECOGNIZED MORTICIAN OF THE YEAR FOR THE FIRST REGIONAL DISTRICT OF THE FLORIDA MORTICIANS ASSOCIATION IN 2005 AND SERVED AS COCHAIRMAN OF THE SAME ORGANIZATION. BUT ALSO TO HAVE THE FAMILY HERE TO PRESENT IT TO THE FAMILY. BECAUSE HE WAS SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO MANY PEOPLE HERE IN COMMUNITY.

AND I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR WOLF, WONDERFUL MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY, WHAT HE DID FOR US IN HIS COMMUNITY JUST MARVELOUS. I WANT TO PRESENT ONE TO YOU ALL. OH, MY GOODNESS.

>> UH-HUH. >> NEXT WE HAVE SUICIDE AWARENESS MONTH PROCLAMATION BEING RECEIVED BYCATCH RIDGE HENSLEY OF NEW HORIZON OF THE TREASURE COAST.

WHEREAS SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH. WHICH DIRECTS THE COMMUNITIES ATTENTION TO THIS PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIC DESTROYING LIVES FAMILIES AND SOMETIMES ENTIRE COMMUNITIES. AND WHEREAS SUICIDE RATE IN THE TREASURE COAST AND IN OKEECHOBEE WERE INCREASING IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2021 ACCORDING TO OUR MEDICAL EXAMINER'S OFFICE. IN WHEREAS NEARLY 2 AND A HALF TIMES AS MANY SUICIDE, 47,511 IN THE UNITED STATES AS THERE WERE HOMICIDES. 19,141.

AND WHERE AS FOR EVERY COMPLETED SUICIDE IN 2029.05 ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE. AND WHEREAS THE SECOND LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR AGES TEN TO 34 AND THE FOURTH LEADING CAUSE FOR AGES 35 TO 54 SUICIDE IS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR TO PREMATURE MORTALITY.

AND WHEREAS SUICIDE IS ONLY TYPE OF DEATH THAT IS 100% PREVENTABLE. AND BY OFFING THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DATA SUPPORT AND SERVICES WE AS THE COMMUNITY HAVE TAKEN THE STEP TOWARD PREVENTING ANOTHER SUICIDE BY OUR RESIDENT. WHEREAS WE ARE HONORED TO BE PART OF THE HEALING PROCESS RAISING AWARENESS FOR AND SUPPORT OF THOSE EFFECTED BY SUICIDE BY OFFERING SUPPORTING SERVICES ADDRESSING MENTAL HEALTH ILLNESS, AND DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTION.

WE'VE BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR 63 YEARS ON THE AVERAGE WE SERVE MORE THAN 15,000 INDIVIDUALS, CHILDREN AND ADULT EVERY YEAR. WE KNOW THAT ON ANY GIVEN DAY NORMALLY, ABOUT 20% OF THE POPULATION IS GO THROUGH TOMA OR HAVING AN ISSUE. NOW WITH THE PANDEMIC WE KNOW IT'S IN EXCESS OF 50%. WE THINK IT'S HIGHER THAN 60%. IT'S A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE.

WE ALSO KNOW THAT FOR EVERY SUICIDE OVER 67 FROM JANUARY THROUGH JUNE FOR EVERY SUICIDE THERE'S 25 ATTEMPTS AND WE THAT MAY ACTUALLY A LITTLE BIT HIGHER THAN THAT.

IT CRISIS SITUATION AND WE'RE VERY, VERY PLEASED THAT THIS CITY IS A PARTNER WITH US ON THIS ISSUE.

WE TAKE IT VERY SERIOUSLY. WE KNOW THAT FROM VENGS IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT AND MUCH MORE I GUESS YOU WOULD SAY FISCALLY SOUND THAN TRYING -- WE HAVE VERY, VERY ROW MUST EDUCATION PROGRAM. AS WELL AS KNOWING THAT NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY. WHETHER YOU CAN PAY OR NOT.
