>> SAME TO YOU. >> THANK YOU SO BOARD MEMBERS, MADAM CHAIR, I THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY COME BEFORE YOU THIS AFTERNOON JUST TO GIVE YOU KIND OF AN ANNUAL UPDATE OF OUR ACTIVITIES FOR 2021. SO, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ALL HAVE A COPIES OF IT, IF NOT WE WILL MAKE SURE IT IS PROVIDED TO YOU.

>> THANK YOU, MA'AM. THE FIVE KEY ACTIVITIES WE WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT, THE FIRST ONE BEING THAT WE RECEIVED, REVIEWED AND RECOMMENDED 14 PROPERTIES AS SURPLUS PROPERTIES THAT WERE SUBSEQUENTLY APPROVED BY THIS BODY.

SECONDLY, WE IDENTIFIED FOUR CORRIDORS IN THE FPRA DISTRICT AS HIGH PRIORITY CORRIDORS FOR OUR AREA OF FOCUS.

THOSE ARE ORANGE AVENUE, AVENUE D, 25TH STREET AND 13TH STREET. JUST TO MAKE YOU ALL AWARE, EVEN THOUGH WE'VE IDENTIFIED THESE AS HIGH-PRIORITY AREAS, WE STILL HAVE A FULL FOCUS ON OUR COMPLETE SCOPE OF WORK.

THIRD BEING WE PROVIDED RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDS THE INCENTIVE PROGRAM THAT FOCUSED ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT. 4TH WE PROVIDED FEEDBACK ON THE FUTURE UTILIZATION OF FIRST FLOOR OF THE SUNRISE CENTER, AND 301 SOUTH OCEAN DRIVE PRIOR TO THE ISSUANCE OF THE REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. 5TH AND LASTLY, WE PROVIDED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE REBRANDING OF THE FPRA AND SUBSEQUENTLY SUGGESTED THE LAUNCHING OF A LOGO CONTEST.

AND SO, GOING FORWARD, FOR 2022, TWO THINGS OF NOTE I WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE YOU WITH. FIRST IS, YOU KNOW, THIS YEAR WE'VE BEEN MEETING ON THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH, 2:00 TO 3:30, SO WE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD NOW MEET ON THE 1ST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH, BEGINNING IN JANUARY.

STILL SAME TIME, 2:00 TO 3:30, WITH YOU IT PUTS NEWS ALIGNMENT WITH THE FOCUS OF YOU, OF THIS BOARD, BECAUSE YOU ALL DO MEET ON THE 2ND TUESDAY, SO THEREFORE, WE WILL CONTINUE TO REVIEW ITEMS THAT COME BEFORE US, BEING CONSISTENT IN OFFERING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOU TO CONSIDER AND HOPEFULLY APPROVE.

AND, SECONDLY, I WILL BE CONTINUING ON IN THIS CAPACITY AS CHAIR, SO LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ME ON A QUARTERLY BASIS TO COME AND REPORT ON OUR ACTIVITIES FOR TWO REASONS.

TO MAINTAIN UNITY AND ALSO CONTINUE AN AIR OF TRANSPARENCY.

WE'VE HAD THE CONVERSATIONS THE PAST TWO MEETINGS SPECIFICALLY OUR NOVEMBER MEETING. ONE OF MY CONCERNS IS LACK OF ATTENDANCE OF EXISTING MEMBERS SO STAFF AND I IT WAS RECOMMENDED WE ADHERE TO THE BYLAWS AND PROVIDE IN WRITING, MAKING SURE WE REACH OUT TO THOSE MEMBERS.

SECONDLY, I TASK ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE ADVISORY BOARD TO KNOW WE ARE ALL AMBASSADORS SO WE ARE CONSISTENTLY PROUD OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING AND USE THAT AS A WAY TO NOT ONLY SPEAK OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS BODY BUT ALSO HELP TO RECRUIT YOUNG AND ACTIVE TALENT, AS WELL. LINCOLN PARK YOUNG PROFESSIONALS, WE MADE IT THREW, WE OPEN VISIONED THE ROOT TO BE A SPACE OPEN AND ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY WITH MARKETPLACES AND FOOD FOR LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS AND ENTERTAINMENT. THIS IS JUST A QUOTE, WE'RE SO EAGER TO BE A PART OF THE CHANGE HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY AND WE'RE EXCITED TO SIGH THE ROOT COME TO LIFE AND HAVE AN IMPACT FOR YEARS TO COME. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

SINCE WE LAST CAME BEFORE YOU, WE HAVE AHAD SOME AKOCH ACCOMPLISHMENTS, WE'VE HAD SOME ACTIVITIES ALONG WHAT BRUCE IS

SAYING THE PROGRAMMATIC PIECE. WE MEET MONTHLY WITH OUR MEMBERS. THE MEMBERSHIP IS GROWING.

WE PARTNER WITH THE CITY FOR CENSUS CENSUS OUTREACH. WE WERE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY.

AND WE'VE HELD DEBATE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NAACP.

WE MAKE SURE TO CONTINUE TO REACH OUT TO OUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES THAT WE WANT TO COLLABORATE WITH AND ONE OF THOSE THINGS CAME OUT OF IT IS OUR BUY BACK THE BLOCK EVENT.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. PRETTY MUCH OUR FLAGSHIP EVENT TO DATE IT HAPPENS EVERY SATURDAY, EVERY SECOND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, AND WE HAVE ABOUT 12-15 VENDORS AT THE SPACE.

BEFORE, IT WAS KIND OF ACTIVATED AS IT IS NOW, IT SEN CLOSED RIGHT NOW BUT WE'VE INVITED LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES TO VEND WITH THE COMMUNITY. WE ADVERTISE IT, WE SHARE IT ON FACEBOOK WHO'S COMING, AND THEY ALSO INVITE THEIR FOLLOWERS, THEIR PEOPLE WHO PATRONIZE THEIR BUSINESSES SO WE LOVE THE BUY BACK THE BLOCK EVENT. WE ACTUALLY CANCELED IT FOR THIS, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE 11TH.

MARIJUANALY BECAUSE MS SO MANY OTHER THINGS GOING ON, THE TOY DRIVES AND THINGS LIKE THAT AND IT IS DECEMBER AND PEOPLE WANT TO BE WITH THEIR FAMILIES.

WE WERE ALL REALLY BUMMED. BUT WE DID SANDY SURVEY OUT BECAUSE WE WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE VENDORS ARE EXPERIENCING AND WE'VE GOTTEN REALLY GOOD FEEDBACK SO FAR.

WE'RE EXCITED THIS IS KIND OF THE PREMIER OF WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AT THE ROOT, ALL OF US SHARING TOGETHER, COMING TOGETHER ON A CONSISTENT BASIS WHERE PEOPLE KNOW THIS IS WHERE IT IS HAPPENING AND THIS IS WHERE THEY WANT TO GO.

NEXT SLIDE. SO THIS IS KIND OF SOME IMMARCHS OF WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON AT -- IMAGES OF WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON AT THE SITE. WE HAVE A LARGE SIGN BUT IT IS REALLY EVERYTHING SHARING AND VENDING AND BUYING AND SPENDING MONEY WITH EACH OTHER. ONE OF OUR VENDORS WHO HAS BEEN COMING SINCE THE BEGINNING, BLUE CANARY AGENCY, THEY WOULD LIKE TO BE PART OF THIS PROJECT TO BUY BACK THE BLOCK AND FOSTER CHANGE AND SPIRIT IN LINCOLN PARK AND THAT IS REALLY THE ROOT OF IT, RIGHT, THE ECONOMIC EXCHANGE, HELPING SMALL BUSINESSES AND PEOPLE WHO LIVE RIGHT THERE FLOURISH.

WE'RE SELLING, WE HAVE CDB PRODUCTS, PEOPLE WITH PURSES AND SHOES, LEMONADE. GREAT FOOD.

WE HAVE GREAT FOOD. OFTEN TIMES PEOPLE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF 9 STREET AT AVENUE D TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON AT THE ROOT SITE. IT IS EXCITING AND WE'RE HAPPY TO SEE ACTIVITY GOING ON THERE ON SECOND SATURDAY.

AND THAT WAS A PRETTY EXTENSIVE LIST THAT WE HAD, BUT I KIND OF PUT A FORCEFUL HAND ON THE LINCOLN PARK PROFESSIONALS TO CONDENSE THAT LIST AND TO BE SURE THAT THOSE ITEMS THEY SELECTED WERE DURABLE AND WEATHER PROOF.

NOW, KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS PARTICULAR VENDOR WAS GOING TO SUPPLY THE CONTAINERS ALREADY OUTFITTED. IN OTHER WORDS, ALREADY BUILT, DELIVERED TO THE SITE, ALL WE HAD TO DO WAS PLUG AND PLAY.

BUT THOSE PRICES FOR THE BUILD OUTS HAD MANY, MANY DIFFERENT HIDDEN EXPENSES. SO WE BROKE THAT DOWN AND FOUND IT IS JUST TOO EXORBITANT. TALKED ABOUT THAT AND SAID I WASN'T COMFORTABLE ABOUT IT, SO WE DID SOME COMPARATIVE SHOPPING AND IDENTIFIED ANOTHER SUPPLIER. AND THAT SUPPLIER, YOU KNOW, REALLY PRODUCED SOME COST SAVINGS FOR THE ROOT AND BEING A STEWART OF THE BUDGET AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT FOR MISS SHABAZ, SHE SUPPORTED THAT, SAVING THE MONEY WAS BETTER THAN MONIES LOST THROUGH SOME LEADER OF FATE.

SO THAT'S WHAT WE DID. THAT WAS AN EXECUTIVE DECISION THAT WE TOOK PLACE, AND THEN THAT REALLY JUST KIND OF REALLY INTERNALIZED THE BUILD-OUT FOR THE CONTAINERS THEMSELVES.

SO WE JUST DID NOT TRUST THE ORIGINAL, JUST BASED ON THE PLACE GOUGING SITUATIONS, AND GOING TO PERFORM THAT ON SITE SO THAT I THINK IS A GOOD THING FOR THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THESE THINGS STARTING TO HAPPEN. AND WE HAVE GREATER CONTROL OVER IT. THEN WE FINALIZED THE BUDGET RIGHT AFTER THAT. I DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT EXERCISE AGAIN IN MY LIFE BECAUSE I PROBABLY LOST A FEW YEARS OF MY LIFE IN THIS PROCESS.
