WHEREAS, HUNGER AND POVERTY REMAIN ISSUES OF GRAVE CONCERN IN THE UNITED STATES, THE STATE OF FLORIDA, THE TREASURE COAST, AND THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE, WITH 58,714 CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN ST. WHEREAS, SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH, WHICH DIRECTS THE COMMUNITY'S ATTENTION TO THIS PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIC DESTROYING LIVES, WHOLE FAMILIES, AND SOMETIME ENTIRE COMMUNITIES SEMICOLON AND WHEREAS, SUICIDE RATES ON THE TREASURE COAST AND IN OKEECHOBEE HAVE INCREASED IN RECENT YEARS ACCORDING TO OUR MEDICAL EXAMINER'S OFFICE WITH 146 SUICIDE DEATHS IN 2022 SEMICOLON AND WHEREAS, ACCORDING TO FLORIDA HEALTH CHARTS, IN 2021, THE AGE-ADJUSTED RATE PER 100,000 POPULATION OF SUICIDE DEATHS IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY WAS 16.4 COMPARED TO FLORIDA AT 13.8.

AND WHEREAS, THE ENSUING HEALTH, ECONOMIC , AND HOUSING CRISIS HAS MORSE RECENTLY TAKEN ITS TOLL ON MENTAL HEALTH WITH INCREASES IN SUICIDAL IDEATION AND DEATH, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, HOUSEHOLD VIOLENCE, FOOD INSECURITY, AND MORE. AND WHEREAS, THERE IS A CALL FOR PUBLIC HEALTH RESPONSE TO INCREASE SUICIDE INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION EFFORTS WITH INCREASED COMMUNITY LEVEL EFFORTS AND STRATEGIES. AND WHEREAS, SUICIDE IS PREVENTABLE , AND BY OFFERING PUBLIC EDUCATION, DATA, SUPPORT, AND SERVICES, WE AS A COMMUNITY HAVE TAKEN A STEP TOWARD PREVENTING ANOTHER SUICIDE BY OUR RESIDENTS. THOSE RESILIENT PEOPLE WITH THE CAPACITY TO RECOVER, REBOUND, AND HEAL. NOW, THEREFORE, I, LINDA HUDSON, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE , FLORIDA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF SIMPLER AS SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH IN THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE, AND URGE OUR RESIDENTS TO BE AWARE OF LOCAL RESOURCES SUCH AS SUNCOAST MENTAL HEALTH CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND SUPPORT FOR

I AM THE DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT FOR SUNCOAST MENTAL HEALTH CENTER, A LEADING MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROVIDERS CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. IT IS MY PRIVILEGE AND PLEASURE TO BE HERE TODAY. TO ACCEPT THIS PROCLAMATION FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH. I AM HERE TODAY BECAUSE CONVERSATIONS MATTER. THEY CAN HELP SAVE LIVES. WITH SUICIDE RANKING AMONG THE LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH IN THE U.S., ESPECIALLY FOR TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS, WE MUST CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE PREVENTION THROUGH CONVERSATION AND EDUCATION. MORE THAN 40,000 PEOPLE OF ALL AGES DIED BY SUICIDE IN 2021 WHILE MILLIONS MORE THOUGHT ABOUT, PLANNED, OR ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. ON AVERAGE, THERE ARE 132 SUICIDES A DAY IN THIS COUNTRY, WHICH MEANS SOMEONE TAKES THEIR OWN LIFE EVERY 11 MINUTES. AND FOR EVERY DEATH BY SUICIDE, THERE ARE ABOUT 25 ATTEMPTS. AT SUNCOAST MENTAL HEALTH CENTER,

WE ARE ADDRESSING THIS MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS BY BRINGING OUR SERVICES AND SUPPORT DIRECTLY TO THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE. WE OFFER CLIENT FOCUSED COMMUNITY-BASED, AND FAMILY CENTERED MENTAL HEALTH CARE IN HOMES, SCHOOLS, WORKPLACES, FOUR OFFICE LOCATIONS, AND BY TELEHEALTH. OUR DEDICATED TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS IS PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING OTHERS AND WORKING TOGETHER TO PROVIDE A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO TREATMENT FOR CLOSE TO 1400 CLIENTS EVERY MONTH, INCLUDING 530 IN ST.
