IN 1965, DOCTOR LORETTO FORD DEVELOPED THE FIRST NURSE PRACTITIONER PROGRAM AND ALMOST 60 YEARS LATER, THERE ARE MORE THAN 1800 NURSE PRACTITIONERS

IMPROVING THE HEALTH AND LIVES OF OUR NEIGHBORS RIGHT HERE ON THE TREASURE COAST. MPS ARE LEADING THE WAY IN PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY COST-EFFECTIVE CARE HELPING SOVEREIGN NATIONS CRITICAL ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE CHALLENGES. EACH YEAR, PATIENTS TURNED TO NURSE PRACTITIONERS AND OVER A MILLION VISITS FOR PRIMARY, ACUTE, SPECIALTY AND LONG-TERM CARE ACROSS EVERY HEALTHCARE SETTING INCLUDING HERE LOCALLY IN SETTINGS LIKE THE HANDS CLINIC THE VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE CLINIC WHERE NURSE PETITIONERS VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME TO GIVE ACCESS TO THOSE WHO ARE THE LEAST ACCESS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

CURRENTLY THE PLAN IS WRITTEN THAT ANY EMPLOYEE HIRED AFTER OCTOBER 1 CAN ONLY RECEIVE A MAXIMUM PENSION BENEFIT OF $100,000, IT CANNOT GO OVER THAT OR EXCEED 75% OF THE FINAL AVERAGE SALARY. THE PROPOSED ALLOWANCE AS TO WHAT WAS INITIALLY BROUGHT TO US TO BE REVIEWED TO BE CHANGED WAS CHANGING THE MAXIMUM PENSION BENEFIT ALLOWANCE 215,000, STILL NOT TO EXCEED 75% OF THE FINAL AVERAGE SALARY. AGAIN, THE RETIREMENT BOARD REVIEWED THE ACTUARIAL IMPACT STUDIES AND LOOKED AT CHANGING THE ALLOWANCE FROM THE 75% TO THE HUNDRED PERCENT AND THE 115. AFTER DISCUSSION AND REVIEWING THE IMPACTS OF WHAT IT WOULD BE FINANCIALLY, THE RETIREMENT BOARDS IS MAKING THE RECOMMENDATION THAT WE NOT ONLY CHANGE THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT TO 115,000, BUT ALSO TO CHANGE IT TO THE FINAL AVERAGE SALARY MAXIMUM BEING 100%.

THE REASONING A RATIONALE BEHIND OUT WAS CURRENTLY WE HAVE A 3% MULTIPLIER AS IT RELATES TO OUR RETIREMENT OR OUR EMPLOYEES. IF AN EMPLOYEE WORKS 25 YEARS, THEY ARE ENTITLED TO 75% OF THEIR FINAL AVERAGE SALARY.

BY CAPPING THIS, WE ARE MAKING THIS WHERE IT WOULD BE NO BENEFIT FOR AN EMPLOYEE TO WORK PAST 25 YEARS.

SO YOU HAVE A YOUNG EMPLOYEE THAT WANTS TO WORK PAST 30 YEARS WITHOUT GOING INTO THE JOB, THEY ARE YOUNG, THEY CAN WORK LONGER AND EARN MORE WAGE , SO IT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL FOR THEM TO WORK UP TO THE 33 ONE THIRD YEAR BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY LEAVE. THEY WOULD BE ENTITLED AND CLOSE TO 100%. LOOKING AT THE DOLLAR AMOUNT AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO, IT WAS ONLY $15,637 TO MOVE FROM THE 75% OF THE FINAL AVERAGE SALARY TO THE 100% OF THE FINAL AVERAGE SALARY. I WOULD LIKE TO SEND THE ISSUE TO RETIREMENT BOARD AND GET SOME TYPE OF NUMBERS TONIGHT TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO HELP ARE ALL THE RETIREES GOT TO NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN, THEY GIVE THE CITY THEIR TIME AND BEEN TO SEE IF WE CAN HELP THEM.
