I WOULD LIKE TO CALL THIS MEETING TO ORDER. THIS IS THE CITY OF FORT PIECE REGULAR COMMISSION MEETING IS TODAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2025. PLEASE STAND FOR THE OPENING PRAYER BY BISHOP JOEL CASE WITH THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS . REMAIN STANDING FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

2021, I JUST GRADUATED FROM PURDUE PRINT I KNOW IDEA OF WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO BE AN ENGINEER. GOING ON FOUR YEARS NOW.

JUST TO THE PEOPLE YOU WORK WITH, IT IS NOT JUST THE BUILDINGS YOU RAISE. IT IS THE COMMUNITY YOU HELP BUILD. BOTH IN TERMS OF MAKING THINGS BETTER, AND ALSO TRY TO FIX PROBLEMS YOU HAVE. IT IS THE DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL ENGINEERS TO PERFORM TO THE BEST OF THEIR ABILITY TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH, WEALTH, AND WELFARE OF ALL PEOPLE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.

IT HAS BEEN MY GOAL TO HELP BUILD MYSELF TO IMPROVE IT INTO BEING A BETTER ENGINEER. IS THE GOAL OF THE FLORIDA ENGINEERING SOCIETY TO HELP ENGINEERS, TO HELP ALL BECOME BETTER.

I ASK YOU NOT TO JUST LOOK AT THIS PROCLAMATION AS ENGINEERS.

TO BE A PART OF THE COMMUNITY, BUT AS ENGINEERS TRYING TO HELP THE COMMUNITY. IF ANY OF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP OUT WITH THE -- OFFENSE, WE HAVE -- COMING UP. SOME OF YOU GUYS MIGHT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT AND SOME OF YOU MAY HAVE HEARD A LITTLE OF IT.

SOME OF YOU MAY NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS BUT MATH COUNTS AS A COMPETITION OVER ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE ENTIRETY OF THE U.S. WITH THE LOCAL -- WITHIN THE TREASURE COAST. FEBRUARY 21ST -- ENGINEERING WEEK WILL BE HAVING THE MATH COUNTS COMPETITION. WE HAVE VOLUNTEERS AND SPONSORS AND EVERYTHING. I UNDERSTAND THAT A PERMIT HAS BEEN OVERSEEING THE SPECIFICATIONS AND BIDDING PROCESS FOR THIS. AND I'M GOING TO COME OF IT IS OKAY, I WILL HAVE YOU KINDA PAINT THE PICTURE HERE. >> I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO UNDERSTAND IS REALLY WHAT A FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN REALLY IS, AND WHAT IT IS INTENDED TO ACCOMPLISH. IN MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND VALUABLE TO HAVE A FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN IN PLACE. NOT PERSONAL, PROFESSIONAL. A FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN AFFECTS JUST THE STRUCTURES. SO WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE SITE AT ALL. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT JUST THE ACTUAL STRUCTURE. IN THIS CASE , THE STRUCTURE IS NOT VERY LARGE.

BUT IN ESSENCE, WHAT YOU ARE ACCOMPLISHING IS YOU MODIFY YOUR BUILDING SUCH THAT WHATEVER THE FLOOD ELEVATION IS, ON THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING , YOU RAISE YOUR ELECTRICAL OUTLETS.

WE USE COATINGS AND MATERIALS THAT ARE WATERPROOF AND WATER RESISTANT, SUCH THAT IF YOU DO HAVE A FLOOD IN THE BUILDING AND IT IS INUNDATED, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO CREATE DAMAGE INSIDE.

AND THEN YOU CAN JUST SWEEP UP THE MUD OR WHATEVER IT IS AND GO BACK TO WORK. THE MAJOR ADVANTAGE OF CONDUCTING A FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN ARE HAVING THAT WORK DONE IS THAT YOU FINISH THE WORK , AND ONCE THE ENGINEER WHO DESIGNED THE FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN, BECAUSE THIS IS AN ENGINEERING PLAN, ONCE HE CERTIFIES THAT THE WORK HAS BEEN DONE UP TO THE SUPPLICATIONS OF FEMA, ONCE THAT IS REPORTED TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA ENERGY MANAGEMENT .
